There has been much stipulation as to the future development of Google Mail, especially after Yahoo hit it hard with the no storage limit feature. Now Gmail needs to come with something to top that and offering the same thing would probably viewed as a copy of Yahoo so I do not really think this would happen. On the other hand there are reports of two new features that are to appear. So, we have Google Gears and View Account Activity. We did not properly understand what is the deal with Google Gears but the View Account Activity feature can be useful. It will show all the IPs connected to your Gmail account and those of the past. This way you can be sure that nobody is using your e-mail unless they are allowed. Nobody really knows when Gmail 2.0 will be launched or how it will look and what will showcase. It does seem that existing features are also upgraded so we can probably expect a good experience. I sure hope so as Gmail is my favorite e-mail client.
