PS212W and CSS10W Wireless Subwoofers

Wireless Subwoofers

Whenever I hear of anything linked between wireless or bluetooth and speakers, my face lights up. This is also the case here with JBL and Infinity signing a partnership to create a wireless subwoofer. Well, we now have the PS212W, a 12 inch 400 W subwoofer that comes with an included 2.4 GHz wireless receiver/transmitter. We also have JBL’s Cinema Sound CSS10W, which uses the same frequency but only appears at 10 inch and 300W. This baby will cost around $560 and the PS212W is sold for around $680.

Ferguson Hill’s Strange Horn Speaker

Horn Speakers

We keep seeing stranger and stranger speakers and this one is just the latest in a series of hundreds. The Ferguson Hill FH001 Horn Speaker is simply put huge and looks like a monster. If you want to make the news even stranger, think about the $19,916 price tag it bears. To make the case even more interesting, this baby can not handle bass under 150hz because of the horn shape. On the other hand your treble will be too loud. Why would anyone purchase this speaker? Hell if I know!

NEC VERSA P9110 Notebook Means Home Entertainment

NEC VersaNEC recently announced the release of their NEC VERSA P9110 notebook, a beautiful 17 inch media device that seems built for home entertainment and users that demand high graphic qualities. This laptop keeps up with the entire high definition transformation trend we are experiencing. You can play computer games that require high system requirements and a lot more with the VERSA P9110.

It looks like this laptop is designed to be used indoor, for those people (including me) that love to have indoor mobility while using their computers. Media files are displayed perfectly on the 17 inch large screen. It is actually comparible with desktop monitors and allows for high degrees of gaming excitement and impact of cinematic movies according to Makoto Iwasaki, Executive Director at NEC Computers Asia. The Cinedisk CD26HD

CineDiskThis is interesting! Korean firm Savit Micro is now letting you carry an entire High Definition video source in the palm of your hand. The Cinedisk CD26HD is now on the market and is capable of up to 1080i resolution with being just a little larger than a normal hand held media player. We have a big 120 GB 2.5 inch hard drive that can playback different formats including MPEG 2, DiVX, WMV9HD, MP3, OGG and WMA. At the moment there is no presence of HDMI so this will not be for you if you consider this feature a must have. On the other hand, the present outputs (for coax digital audio and component video) should be enough for the average user.

The bad side to it all is that you will have problems in finding one of these babies outside Korea. If you can also pay for overseas shipping you will be able to purchase the Cinedisk CD26HD for around $230.

Toshiba’s Two REGZA Super Narrow Bezel

Toshiba REGZA SNR

The CEDIA show marked the announcement of two new additions to Toshiba’s premium REGZA LCD HDTV line. They are of course 1080p Full HD models and have the latest high quality video and audio features offered by the company and what was marketed as the “World’s Thinnest LCD TV Bezel” (it only measures less than a inch wide). The two models will be of 40 and 46 inches, diagonally measured. Scott Ramirez, vice president of marketing with Toshiba declared:

“Our new REGZA LCD line has already been a huge success. We have set new standards in picture quality with our PixelPure(TM) 14-bit internal processing, and we will now set a new standard in design with the world’s thinnest LCD TV bezel. These premium models are not only strikingly beautiful; they also allow you to put a larger TV in a smaller space. In fact, our new 40″ SNB model fits in the space of a standard Toshiba 37″, which means that many consumers can now fit a 40″ model into their existing home theater furniture.”

The duo will have enough features to make it popular among users. We have a “high-gloss black with chrome trim” design that is completed with a xvYCC signal support, an uber-slim SoundStrip2 speaker system, DynaLight backlighting, three HDMI inputs with CE-Link control and an interesting price. Both of the REGZA Super Narrow Bezel models will appear in stores this month. The 40RF350U costs $1,899.99 and the 46RF35OU ads another $600 to the price.

Messiah’s PS3 Blu-Ray Remote

Messiah PS3 Blu-Ray Remote

There is no denying in the fact that PlayStation 3s and Blu-Ray players are popular for theater geeks but there is a problem. The PS3 lacks an infrared port so you can not use the universal remote on in it. This means that you have to get up and do it manually, something that is not acceptable for the true commodity and technology lover. Fortunately, PlayStation 3 remotes appeared and this one here is the newest one. The Messiah Darklite DVD remote looks a lot like the LG Chocolate mobile phone. You slide down to open it and gain access to advanced features like chapter navigation and display.

The remote is fully backlit and this means you can use it while in darkness to operate your home theater system. The device comes with a rechargable battery that can be plugged into the base station. This base station can connect to a PlayStation 3 unit via USB port. The base can act as an IR receiver so you will need to point the remote to it to make it work.

If you plan to purchase the Darklite DVD remote, be prepared to have $30 at hand, a price that is not that big. The shipping date is September 25 but you can pre-order it from Messiah.

Cowon Q5 Media Player

Cowon Q5

Since there seems to be a lot of interesting gadgets in Japan and fewer in Europe, we now turn our heads to Korea, to Cowon to be more precise. They just unveiled the Q5 Wi-Fi media player. This interesting device comes with a 5 inch touch-sensitive display, hard disk capabilities of up to 500 GB and of course Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth support via USB. When it comes to supported formats there is a lot to go around with MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV, FLAC, ASF, WMV, MPEG 4, DivX, AVi, PNG, JPEG, BMP, PNG and Raw photo display all on the list. You can view it all on the small screen mentioned above or via TV-out (an option that is probably going to be more popular).

Cowon announced that the Q5 Media Player will arrive in Europe late September and will have a price of around 439 pounds for the 40 GB version and 473 pounds for the 60 GB model. You have to wonder how much a model of 500 GB would cost if it came under a “standard” selling package.

Sharp’s BD-HP20S Blu Ray Movie Player

Sharp BD-HP20S

Sharp recently announced the appearance of the new BD-HP20S, their first Blu-Ray movie player to be sold outside of Japan. We have here one of the slimmest devices of its kind. It is only 2.7 inches tall and the company claims it still provides the same features as current Blu-Ray movie players. What is interesting is that this unit comes equipped with Java support. This opens the door for advanced commentary and different interactive features on some discs. As expected, we have HDMI 1.3 support and Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD together with increased color deepness. The BD-HP20S can pe linked with the AQUOS TVs through a Link feature and it can also be used with other devices that meet the CEC control standard.1080p upscaling of regular DVDs is of course included and the industry standard of 24 frames per second is respected. Sharp did not mention any price but did say the release in Europe will come this fall. US launch is scheduled for approximatively the same date or shortly afterwards.
