Zune vs iPod - Which is Better?

There is a huge debate going on linked to media players and people are either supporting the classic iPod or the new and improved Zune 2. Which one is better? Let us take a look at some facts and maybe you will decide for yourself. We have the iPod Classic at 80GB and the new Zune 2 at 80 GB so when talking about storage there is not much to differentiate the two. Until know it was the iPod that was better when it comes to space and song numbers held so now we need to take a closer look. First off, let us take a look at the iPod’s classic 2.5 inch screen and the super simple to use scroll wheel. It is well known but what about Zune’s 3.2 inch LCD screen with a 320X240 pixels resolution? On the other hand the touchpad is quite strange at first but still looks pretty elegant. When it comes to content we need to put in iTunes. It is the best one yet but it can not rip DVDs. Zune comes with a new marketplace and now features a very growing library of video and audio content. We have 3 million songs now and we can say that there is a very good growth rate visible at an affordable pay plan. The last thing we need to talk about is price as it is something that has to be considered in every little cool geeky gadget out there. The iPod is $249 and the Zune is $299. It is quite similar. So which one is better? To keep it fair, the iPod is still king but Zune is catching up fast so a lot of people are going to purchase the Zune this holiday season for sure.

Pink Zunes for Breast Cancer Month

Pink ZUne

Oh boy do I hate pink but hey, girls usually love that color and it does look good in some gadgets. This is the case in October because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On the other hand, you might think that breasts would have nothing to do with the fact that Ford and Microsoft are teaming together. Well, they do because this team will donate 100 percent of the purchase price of some special edition Zune models to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The 30 GB Zunes sold are first generation models and we do not really know how many will be available for the offer but we do see it as a limited edition gadget. Well, if you do not own a second generation Zune, I suppose this is cool, so you can grab one of these pink Zunes for $249.99 Any Takers?

iPhone Price Drop Equals More Sales

iPhoneJust as we all expected, the price drop of the iPhone immediately meant more units sold. This is similar to the price drop the PlayStation 3 experienced in the past. Everybody wants technology and if it is cheaper then even more individuals are going to buy gadgets. Gene Munster, analyst with Piper Jaffray recently claimed that iPhone sales went up a mile after the price drop. Before it there were around 9,000 of these mobile phones being sold per day while after transformed into around 27,000 iPhones per day, especially in the period between September 5 and September 9. Now the price cut proved to be beneficial when it comes to units sold but we still need to see for how long this will last.

The New iPod Shuffle? Really?

Orange iPod Shuffle

Orange iPod Shuffle

The iPod Shuffle received the smallest upgrades in the entire iPod range but it is still a great gadget. If you like small amounts of music while on the move and do not need big storage options the iPod Shuffle is just perfect. The biggest upgrades this little bastard got stands in new colors and the addition of a Product RED charity Shuffle. In its case all proceeds will go to organizations fighting malaria and AIDS in developing countries. So,we have a new color range including teal, green, purple and silver. They do look like the old ones, with minor shade variations and that is about all. Price is still the same and availability is the same. So what did actually change?

iPod Touch and iPhone Similarities

iPod TouchThe new iPod Touch seems to support all the features the iPhone does. There is still no Weather, Mail, Stocks or Google Maps on the device but it seems they are coming. Sources inside Apple said that the iPod Touch and the iPhone “use the same damn binaries.” It looks like the company decided not to include the above mentioned features in Touch. The reason behind the move might be that then the two devices will be too similar. If there is a difference between the two it stands in the fact that the iPhone is more communication oriented and the iPod Touch is more entertainment-oriented. Both gadgets use the same operating system and frameworks but there are differences in user interface elements.

I would love to see a way to transfer iPhone applications to the iPod Touch and the other way around. It would be an interesting combination that could be very popular with users. Apple is currently launching and marketing a lot of products and it will be interesting to see which one will have bigger success.

Sony Walkman B100 Announced

Sony Walkman B100 White

To complete the walkman series, Sony recently announced the new Sony Walkman NWZ-B100, a very interesting MP3 player, not as great as the S610, but still very notable. The B100 comes with a three line LCD color display that shows the currently playing tracks and the player’s functions. It supports WMA and MP3 files together with being compatible with PlayForSure. What we saw and is not that common is the integrated FM Tuner that comes with 30 stations presets and the MP3 player can also record radio broadcasts. The Sony Walkman B100 has a built-in microphone that allows audio recording. Its battery can play 12 hours of audio on one charge and can be charged via USB interface. Sony will launch two models in the B100 series. They will have different storage sizes and range of colors. Chetz, of Slippery Brick declared:

“The NWZ-B103F holds 1GB, comes in only black and will retail for about $60. The NWZ-B105F has double the capacity at 2GB, double the colors (black or white) and will go for around $80. Both are available for pre-order now from SonyStyle and are expected to ship on September 2.”

The downside to the B100 line is that it can be classified under the regular MP3 players. It has no special features and is not that different than what the competition is offering. It does offer high quality and technology levels that stand true to the Sony brand bad still, nothing really special here.

The Exploding iPhone

Exploded iPhone

What happens when you try to unlock an iPhone but you do not really know what you are doing? The picture says it all! One guy involved in this process said:

“We were so happy, all the software part was done, so we started opening the iPhone. The antenna cover was a bit tricky but eventually it came off. Then we started to open the metal cover (after taking out the 3 screws) and PUFF, up it went in smoke, I think my colleague must have touched something. It literally went up in black smoke. It was so hot that when I tried to pick it up I burned my fingers. So, this is for sure the most difficult part of the whole process. I don’t know what he did, as I had just stepped out of the room to fetch something when I heard a scream…they got such a fright.

The morale of the story is: wait until the hack appears. Don’t do it yourself or let somebody that knows what he is doing make the needed changes. Luckily nobody got hurt!
