Grandma’s Personal Computer

Grandma’s Personal ComputerOK! This is not my grandma’s personal computer. In fact, my grandma does not even know what the on/off button of the monitor is although she knows to play some beat em up games on my PlayStation 2. Now, getting back to the news at hand, we get to see an incredible Personal Computer, one of the coolest we have ever seen for sure. It is true that tastes might be different from one individual to the other but this PC created by Jake von Slatt of Steampunk is incredible. We are talking about a personal computer that is inspired by the Victorian era and one that is made from scratch. The base materials for this PC are quite simple and we are talking about a simple flat screen and a regular computer, all combined with old typewriter keys. We do realize that this would not be your main computer but you would surely use it as well. The only bad news is that this computer is not for sale, something that should change as the world of personalized personal computers is one that did not really develop along the years.

Intel Skulltrail Reaches 5.0 GHz

Intel Skulltrail

There have been reports in the past concerning Intel’s Skulltrail but they are now outdated. We are now dealing with a beautiful Skulltrail prototype motherboard that is almost ready and should be a hit among those that love overclocking. We can notice a Seaburg chipset and two 771-pin Xeon sockets and according to reports we can say that this baby reached 5.0 GHz in a stable overclocked state and also 5.2 in an almost stable state. We are dealing with a system that utilizes vapor cooling and there are some silicon add-ons on some special parts of the motherboard in order to stop condensation from coming into play. During Fall IDF we noticed that a similar model only reached 4 GHz and this is because of the BIOS limitations that were present at the moment. There was simply no way of getting higher.Intel knows that overclocking is a reality and it does look that they think it should be done right if it is still done against company recommendations. It does look like Skulltrail comes with enough on it to make it almost impossible to getting damaged in overclocking (if it is done correctly of course).

Intel’s Skulltrail does seem to come with a big improvement when compared with their V8. We are dealing with a quad-core machine but it is one that was design while thinking flexibility in overclocking. A lot of regulators were added to the mix and this makes it possible to allow voltage adjustments with higher amperage (around 90 amps on each processor at just over 1 volt). We are also dealing with a special overclocking BIOS that is not found on regular Xeon boards and on the whole we are dealing with a motherboard that will portray a rock solid voltage in any conditions according to Francois Piednoel, Intel senior performance analyst. The Skulltrail model that was overclocked also comes with dual input power ports in order to deal with the increased power needed.

Ruff Conditions Personal Computer

Ruffneck PC

In the picture above we can see the new Ruffneck PC launched by GE Fanuc’s Computer Dynamics subsidiary. This here personal computer is ready for abuse. It shows a nice 15 inch touchscreen LCD that is to be used with gloves. The processor is a Pentium M at 1.6 GHz, we have 2GB of RAM memory and a good enough 40GB hard disk. What is interesting with this PC is that it is wrapped in thermally-managed enclosure. This allows it to operate in low temperatures of -40 and high temperatures up to 140 Fahrenheit. We do not know how much it will cost but if you live in an environment that needs the specifications above, you should purchase it no matter what.
